FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reynolds’s Story Explores Olympic-Level Training, Elite Coaching Methods, and Overtraining Syndrome

Across the Line by Sue Reynolds

July 21, 2026 — Bloomington, IN, USA — 80/20 Publishing announces the release of Across the Line: The Pursuit of Elite Performance and the Edge of Human Limits by Sue Reynolds. In her second book, Reynolds shares a story-driven case study of her transformation from newbie triathlete to world champion.

Reynolds gained fame for losing 200 pounds after taking up triathlon at age 60, a story told in her debut bestseller The Athlete Inside. In this sequel, Reynolds shares her single-minded pursuit of performance, stunning the world as she begins winning races while revealing Olympic-level training methods, elite coaching techniques, Overtraining Syndrome, and the risks of pushing too hard for too long. How good could you be? How hard would you push to find out? Across the Line reveals truths about human limits and shares lessons on balancing joy and the pursuit of excellence. Proceeds from Reynolds’s book sales benefit the USA Triathlon Foundation. See more at 8020books.com.

A latecomer to endurance sports, Sue Reynolds ventured into triathlon in an effort to lose weight. Over several seasons of training, she dropped 200 pounds, evolved into a world-class masters triathlete, and wrote The Athlete Inside, a book about her inspiring transformation. But her curiosity wouldn’t let her stop, so at age 65 she decided to begin working with world-class coaches like Bobby McGee, Jim Vance, Sara McLarty, Jeff Troesch, and Daz Smith.

Reynolds shares her personal experiment, chronicling the steep learning curve, the demands of Olympic-level training, and what it was like to work with elite coaches—all as she travels the globe, competing (and winning) against the world’s best. Across the Line reveals Olympic-level coaching and training methods and the thrill of world championship victory—until Reynolds discovers that her drive for excellence is risking her life. Even as she climbs the rankings, her workouts plateau, then decline as her health begins to suffer. She finds herself sidelined by Overtraining Syndrome—a dreaded point of no return for a season and sometimes a career.

In Across the Line, Reynolds examines the dynamics of coach-athlete relationships and the unspoken values that shape training. Sue Reynold’s story is a celebration as well as a warning, a case study in excellence and the drive to perform that offers athletes a path toward resilience, longevity, and sustainable success.
